Michel Fourniret, replongé dans son mutisme, n'aura tenu que quatre jours sa promesse de s'expliquer sur les faits, un temps qu'il a utilisé pour ergoter sur des détails au lieu d'éclairer la cour d'assises des Ardennes sur les sept meurtres dont il est accusé. La cour doit entendre ce lundi les derniers experts pour achever l'examen de personnalité des accusés. Mardi et mercredi seront consacrés au plaidoiries des parties civiles, avant le réquisitoire jeudi. Dans un nouveau coup d'éclat, le tueur en série présumé est revenu vendredi sur son engagement de participer aux débats, qu'il avait pris le 7 mai devant deux de ses enfants témoignant à la barre. L'accusé s'est ainsi replongé dans son silence, comme lors des sept premières semaines de procès où il refusait de s'exprimer faute de huis clos.

S'il a reconnu être dans "un état second" lors de l'étranglement d'Isabelle et avoir jeté son dévolu sur Fabienne de manière "non préméditée", Michel Fourniret a le plus souvent entraîné la cour dans des digressions. Il a longuement pinaillé sur des détails, racontant par le menu les itinéraires empruntés ou encore la marque et la couleur des voitures utilisées pour commettre ses forfaits. "Mettez le turbo!", s'est exclamé Gilles Latapie, le président de la cour d'assises alors que l'accusé se perdait dans un long monologue.

"Il veut absolument dominer l'autre, ses épouses, ses victimes, la justice. On a bien vu qu'il voulait conduire les choses", a déclaré le Dr Bernard Dufossez, qui a souligné avec d'autres psychiatres l'état "incurable" de l'accusé "complètement emmuré dans sa problématique" de domination. " En face de lui, il n'y a plus les victimes, il y a les familles (...) On existe encore et la punition continue", a estimé de son côté Jean-Pierre Saison, le père d'une victime, qui a déserté l'audience plus d'une heure vendredi avec les autres familles pour protester "symboliquement" contre l'attitude de l'accusé.

They are still here and their suffering continues," for his side was said by Jean-Pierre Saison, father of a victim, who had left the hearing for an hour on Friday with the other families to, "symbolically," protest against the attitude of the accused.

Si Michel Fourniret s'est emporté mercredi contre les "mensonges flagrants" de son épouse et l'a accusée de s'être un jour étonnée de la "facilité" avec laquelle on pouvait "embarquer" une jeune fille, il l'a fermement disculpé du meurtre de Jeanne-Marie Desramault, le seul pour lequel elle est co-accusée. "Le pacte n'est pas complètement levé. Du pacte criminel on est passé au pacte de non-agression", a commenté Me Seban. "Pendant 16 ans, il y a forcément des choses qui l'ont satisfaite, qui lui ont permis d'alimenter ses fantasmes", a estimé le Dr Ployé tandis qu'un autre expert a jugé Monique Olivier "curable", l'accusée n'ayant pas, selon lui, une "perversité active propre". Lundi, la cour entendra les derniers experts pour achever l'examen de personnalité des accusés. Mardi et mercredi seront consacrés au plaidoiries des parties civiles, avant le réquisitoire jeudi.

Enfants Kidnappés: Fourniret can neither be cured nor rehabilitated.

In the witness box on Thursday, presenting an expert psychiatric opinion on Michel Fourniret, Bernard Dufossez stated that Michel Fourniret was neither curable nor able to be rehabilitated in the current state of our knowledge. Michel Fourniret has confessed to seven aggravated murders and Thursday 15th May saw the opening of the twenty-sixth day of the trial.

Selon Jorge Pontes, haut responsable d’Interpol au Brésil, l’organisation internationale de police criminelle, en ce moment, "n’a aucune investigation en cours à propos de Madeleine McCann".

Le responsable admet qu’Interpol au Brésil a reçu un total de cinq dénonciations concernant l’éventuelle présence de Madeleine dans le pays, une partie en provenance du Royaume-Uni, mais que toutes se sont avérées infondées.

According to Jorge Pontes, head of Interpol in Brazil, the international criminal police organisation, at this moment, "there is no current investigation about Madeleine McCann."

The chief admits that Interpol in Brazil has received a total of five reports about the possible presence of Madeleine in the country, some form the United Kingdom but all have proved to be unfounded.

"Entre mai et juin de l’année passée, nous avons reçu quelques dénonciations indiquant qu’une fillette avec les caractéristiques de Madeleine aurait été vue à Ipanema et dans Cinelândia, à Rio de Janeiro," admet le responsable soulignant qu’après l’intervention de la Police Fédérale brésilienne il s’est avéré que l’enfant n’était pas Maddie.

Après la première information, le 11 mai 2007, Interpol à fini par ouvrir, à la demande des autorités portugaises et britanniques, un dossier d’investigation ou constant aujourd’hui tous les informations arrivées depuis."

La première information transmise à la représentation d’Interpol au Brésil est arrivée depuis le Royaume-Uni disant qu’un homme aurait contacté les autorités à propos d’une fillette qu’il avait aperçue au Salon du Livre de Cinelândia, à Rio de Janeiro. Après investigation la piste s’est avérée non fondée.

The first report sent to Interpol's representative in Brazil came from the United Kingdom, saying that a man had contacted the authorities about a young girl he had noticed at the Salon du Livre (Reading Room) in Cinelandia, in Rio de Janeiro. After investigation the lead was proved to be unfounded.

Plus tard, dans la même ville, un témoin affirme voir Madeleine dans le Terminal d’autobus Rodoviaria Novo Rio, un des plus grands et mieux surveillés du continent américain – à titre d’exemple, mercredi et jeudi prochains, à l’occasion du férié du Corpus Christi, 242.000 personnes vont prendre leur départ depuis ce Terminal, avec le passage prévu de plus de 9.000 autobus.

Only one report has been recorded in Brazil this year, at almost the same time as the investigators started the interrogations of the Tapas Seven in the United Kingdom. According to Jorge Pontes, it was an ambassador to Brazil who informed Interpol of the witness statement of a passenger on a flight to Sao Paulo, stating that Madeleine was on board the commercial airliner.

Malgré le non fondement des informations arrivées à Interpol, l’organisation reste en contact permanent avec les autorités portugaises et britanniques à qui "tous les détails du dossier ont été communiqués." C’est d’ailleurs le cas dans tous les pays ou l’organisation est présente.

In spite of the baseless nature of the reports arriving at Interpol, the organisation remains in constant contact with the Portuguese and British authorities to whom, "all the details of the file have been communicated." This is the case in every country where the organisation has a presence.

Crisis in Algeria: organs harvested from abducted children.

Apparently, until recently, the issue of child-trafficking for organs was thought to be just rumour and not based in fact. That was until the arrest last week of a Moroccan national in the Algerian region of Tlemcen, during an attempted abduction of a two-year-old child. The subsequent investigation uncovered a network, which runs through Morocco and Sub-Saharan Africa, of child-trafficking for harvesting of organs.

"But last week the national gendarmerie of the Tlemcen region succeeded in arresting a Moroccan national while he was attempting to abduct a two-year-old child. the investigation which followed led to the dismantling of an international network for abducting children and which includes Sub-Saharans, Moroccans and Algerians. The investigation revealed that this network was specialised in the abduction of children in Algeria for transfer for large sums of money to private clinics where their vital organs were removed."

Last Saturday, a ten-year-old girl was snatched as she left her school in the village of Aïn M'lila, in the Oum El-Bouaghi region of Algeria. It happened so quickly that no one realised immediately that there had been an abduction. A vehicle screeched to a stop, two men jumped out and grabbed the ten-year-old girl, thrusting her very quickly into the vehicle, which then sped off out of the village. Fortunately, some of the bystanders had noted the registration number and the police set up road blocks very soon afterwards. Later in the day, the vehicle was stopped, three men were taken into custody and the child returned to her home.

This incident in the village of Aïn M'lila, has understandably led to great anxiety amongst the population, especially after the press reports of children being abducted for the sale of their organs.

"L'inquiétude que ce soit à Aïn M'lila ou dans d'autres villes du pays a atteint son comble au sein de la population. Particulièrement après la divulgation par la presse nationale de l'affaire de trafic d'organes d'enfants enlevés en Algérie et dans laquelle sont impliqués des Marocains et où sont mises en cause des cliniques de la ville de Oujda. Une affaire qui se révèle d'une grande gravité et qui vient confirmer que le trafic d'organes d'enfants enlevés sur le territoire national n'est pas le fruit de simples rumeurs."

"The concern which there is in Aïn M'lila and other towns in the country has reached a peak in the population. Particularly after the disclosure by the national press of the trafficking in the organs of children abducted in Algeria, in which Moroccans are implicated and where suspicions fall on clinics in the town of Oujda. A case which reveals a very serious problem and which has just confirmed that the traffic in the organs of children abducted in the national territory is not the result of mere rumours."

On Tuesday, the problem was discussed on a national radio channel by Professor Mostefa Khiati, president of the National Foundation for the Promotion and Development of Research. (FOREM) He insisted that the National People's Congress must adopt tougher laws and joined Ahmed Ouyahia, former head of the government in calling for harsh punishment for kidnapping, even going as far as perhaps the death penalty. Khiati said that Algeria has no children's code in law and reminded listeners that when a child is reported missing that a search is, at present, only activated after 24 hours. He called for a rapid response from the security services.

Khiati called for an alert system, similar to those in other countries. He also referred to the changing nature of child abductions. Previously, according to statistics, most abductions by strangers had sexual motives, but now there is a, "nouveau phénomène qui se révèle au grand jour," (new phenomenon being revealed in this situation.)

So, in private clinics, where organs from abducted children are being bought for huge sums of money, doctors who are supposed to be pledged to save lives, are probably making a fortune out of selling those organs on to people who have the cash to look after their own health. Do those people ask where the life-saving organs have come from? Do they want to know? Are there people who have been on long waiting lists in countries around the world, going on transplant trips to Morocco, not even considering how those private clinics obtain a ready supply of organs? And lastly, why no international outrage about this vile trafficking? If such outrage exists, I have not seen any evidence of it.

Rogério Alves, un des avocats de Kate et Gerry McCann, à affirmé aujourd’hui à Faro que les autorités portugaises ont déjà determiné la date de la reconstitution des événements de la nuit de la disparition de Madeleine, affirmant que Kate et Gerry McCann seraient présents.

Why a reconstruction after a year?

According to British officers who went to Praia da Luz in the context of the enquiry into Madeleine's disappearance, "the reconstruction requested by the PJ is something that Kate and Gerry McCann cannot get away from."

Une reconstitution permet également de confronter les points de vue des différents "acteurs", notamment celui du suspect avec celui des témoins.

"Enormous progress can be made in an enquiry with statements made at the scene of the crime, once the person is placed in a particular situation...She is obliged to repeat the actions she claims to have made, this time under the eyes of others and in particular of the investigators," states the officer.

A reconstruction also allows the viewpoints of the various, "actors," to be compared, notably those of the suspect with those of the witnesses.

Diplomatie britannique toujours présente

L’annonce du départ de l’ambassadeur John Buck le 10 septembre 2007 n’a rien changé à l’attitude de la diplomatie britannique dans l’enquête à la disparition de Madeleine McCann. John Buck, quittant définitivement la carrière diplomatique, a été rapidement remplacée par Alexander Wykeham Ellis en provenance de Bruxelles ou il avait travaillait avec le Président de la Commission Européenne.

The announcement of the departure of the ambassador John Buck on September 10th 2007, changed nothing about the attitude of British diplomacy in the enquiry into Madeleine McCann's disappearance. John Buck, leaving the diplomatic service for good, was quickly replaced by Alexander Wykeham Ellis from Brussels where he had worked with the President of the European Commission.

Le parquet de Dinant a tenu à démentir, mercredi, l'information selon laquelle il aurait ouvert une enquête préliminaire concernant d'éventuels liens entre Fourniret et le décès d'un couple de personnes âgées d'Honnay (Beauraing) en 2000. Pour le procureur du Roi de Dinant, Bernard Appart, rien dans le papyrus, remis par le tueur en série le premier jour de son procès au président de la cour d'assises de Charleville-Mézières, ne permet d'effectuer un lien avec la mort de ces personnes âgées comme semble l'indiquer le journal Le Soir de ce mercredi. "Juste Michel Fourniret parle-t-il explicitement, dans ce papyrus que nous ont transmis les autorités judiciaires françaises, d'une tentative d'homicide sur la personne d'un professionnel de la santé", précise Bernard Appart. "Volet sur lequel Michel Fourniret pourrait être entendu par les enquêteurs dinantais. Le cas échéant, ce serait à la fin de son procès en cours". Pour rappel, les enquêteurs dinantais sont toujours saisis du volet "disparition des jeunes filles au pair". Volet sur lequel divers devoirs d'enquête ont déjà été menés sans pouvoir pour l'instant incriminer à Michel Fourniret le moindre des agissements que lui prêtait Monique Olivier.

"Jean-Pierre Hellegouarch is someone whom I betrayed, whose trust I betrayed," the accused said at the Ardennes court of assizes, where he is on trial since March 27th for seven murders of young women between 1987 and 2001. Jean-Pierre Hellegouarch and Michel Fourniret met in 1984 in the Fleury-Mérogis prison. The future serial killer was imprisoned for sexual assaults, which he hid from his fellow detainees. His cell-mate was accused of being a bank, "robber," trafficking in arms and drugs. Jean-Pierre Hellegouarch, aged 65, brought from prison to give evidence as a witness, explained at the bar that he was not suspicious. "To me, Fourniret seemed like an inoffensive person," he said. Fourniret, freed first, made many visits to Farida Hammiche, Hellegouarch's wife. In 1988, Jean-Pierre Hellegouarch confided to the young woman the existence of a booty, buried in a Val-d'Oise cemetary. He thinks of Fourniret and, "his gardener's hands," to recover the money.

Il met en joue Monique Olivier "apeurée qui pleurniche", "son enfant accroché à sa jupe", la prend en pitié, l'épargne et lui laisse son numéro de téléphone.

Farida Hammiche, partner of a former cellmate of Fourniret's in the 1980s, is one of the eight young women and teenagers whom the alleged serial killer admitted, in 2004, to having killed, after being denounced by his wife, Monique Olivier. This crime without a corpse - the body, buried in an Yvelines forest, has never been found - is not being tried in the trial which opened on March 27th before the Ardennes court of assizes, where Michel Fourniret must answer to seven aggravated murders and his wife to complicity. The case, which is still being investigated by the Versailles court and for which Fourniret is not being charged, was discussed on Wednesday in the context of the examination of the personality of the accused in the presence of many witnesses. Shortly before the deposition of Jean-Pierre Hellegouarch, Farida Hammiche's partner, Carole Pitolet, a commissioner of the Versailles PJ, asked Fourniret if he was now ready to lead the investigators to the place where he had buried the young woman after having strangled her.

"Je ne suis pas contre (le fait) de reprendre, avec la volonté d'aboutir, les recherches", a répondu l'accusé. "J'y suis décidé", a-t-il ensuite promis au président Gilles Latapie qui l'invitait à "faire un effort", alors qu'après ses aveux il avait déjà été interrogé par la PJ mais avait refusé de collaborer. Fourniret a dit avoir tué Farida Hamiche pour s'emparer de plusieurs dizaines de kg d'or qu'il venait de déterrer avec elle peu auparavant, sur les indications de M. Hellegouarch. Ce "trésor" caché provenait des braquages du gang des postiches démantelé dans les années 1980.

Today in Faro, Rogério Alves, one of the Portuguese lawyers involved in the McCann couple's defence, stated that there were, "strong indications," that the reconstruction of the unfolding of events of the evening during which Madeleine disappeared would still be carried out in May. The lawyer was addressing journalists on the sidelines of a seminar at the University of the Algarve.

L'avantage de soulever le secret de justice réside dans le fait que les parents sauront quelles recherches ont été faites et si la police est proche d'une solution. "Ce qui résulte du secret de justice est l'interdiction à l'accès du dossier et à la connaissance du contenu tel qu'un père et une mère aimeraient avoir afin de savoir ce que la police est en train de faire pour découvrir une chose fondamentale pour eux: ce qui est arrivé à leur fille" a conclu Rogério Alves.

Le délai du secret de justice de l’enquête à la disparition de Madeleine McCann est prolongé officiellement pour trois mois. Selon une source du Ministère Public à Lisbonne, le nouveau délai commence à compter jeudi prochain, quinze mai, jour ou le dossier d’enquête aurait pu devenir accessible.

Madeleine McCann a disparue le 3 mai 2007 et l’enquête continue dans les mains du Département d’Investigation Criminelle (DIC) de la Police Judiciaire (PJ) à Portimão ou les inspecteurs sont fin prêts pour avancer avec des nouvelles diligences.

L’autre arguido, le britannique Robert Murat, continue à Praia da Luz ou il se dit disponible pour aider les autorités dans toute diligence que puisse aider à la résolution du mystère.

The PJ are still waiting for the return to Portugal of Kate and Gerry McCann, parents of the little girl and arguidos in the enquiry. Deuxième anniversaires loin de sa famille.

Hier, les parents de Madeleine, Sean, Amélie et toute sa famille ont passé une deuxième fois l'anniversaire de Madeleine sans elle. L'anniversaire des 5 ans de la petite fut passé en privé en leur demeure. Le porte-parole de Kate et Gerry, Clarence Mitchell, a déclaré que le couple avait organisé une petite fête symbolique principalement pour le bien-être des jumeaux Sean et Amélie. "Sans la présence de Madeleine à leurs côtés, ce n'est malheureusement qu'un autre jour sans elle à bien des égards. Gerry et Kate ont, bien sûr, organisé quelque chose pour marquer le cinquième anniversaire de Maddie, autant pour Sean et Amélie que pour tout autre, mais ils le feront en privé" précisa le porte-parole. "Nous passerons le cinquième anniversaire de Madeleine en privé en tranquillement à la maison. Ce sera un des jours les plus durs de ces 375 derniers jours" a écrit Gerry sur son blog.

Yesterday, Madeleine's parents, Sean, Amélie and the whole family spent a second birthday without her. The little girl's fifth birthday was spent in private at their home. Kate and Gerry's spokesperson, Clarence Mitchell, stated that the couple had organised a small, symbolic celebration, primarily for the benefit of the twins Sean and Amélie. "Without Madeleine's being there with them, this is unfortunately just another day without her in many ways. Gerry and Kate have, of course, organised something to mark Maddie's fifth birthday, more for Sean and Amélie than for anyone else, but they did it in private," said their spokesperson. "We spent Madeleine's fifth birthday quietly, in private at home. It was one of the hardest of the last 375 days," Gerry wrote in his blog.

Clarence Mitchell a révélé que suite à cet appel récent, le couple a reçu des milliers d'e-mails et des centaines d'appels téléphoniques. "C'est une très très bonne et encourageante réponse à ce jour" a déclaré Clarence Mitchell ainsi Método3 aurait maintenant plusieurs pistes "prometteuses".

Madeleine au Brésil ?

Depuis sa disparition, Madeleine a été "aperçues" dans plusieurs pays. Interpol a confirmé que certaines de ces "apparitions" ont eu lieu au Brésil mais qu'aucun de ses témoignages ne s'est révélé probant. Cette information est révélée par une source officielle d'Interpol. Le dernier témoignage remonte à environ un mois et l'enquête est toujours en cours sur place. Le responsable d'Interpol au Brésil, Jorge Pontes, a confirmé que cette "piste potentiel est en train d'être vérifiée" et qu'il ne peut, donc, donner aucun détail. Un témoin garantit avoir vu la fillette britannique dans un vol pour Sao Paulo. La déléguée d'Interpol à Brasilia, Marilia Moreira Marques précise que: "Depuis l'année dernière, nous avons vérifié cinq pistes au Brésil. Malheureusement rien n'a été trouvé qui conduirait à la découverte de Maddie".

Madeleine in Brazil?

Since her disappearance, Madeleine has, "appeared," in several countries. Interpol has confirmed that some of these, "appearances," have taken place in Brazil but none of the witness statements have been shown to be convincing. This information is revealed by an official Interpol source. The last witness statement showed up about a month ago and the enquiry there is ongoing. The head of Interpol in Brazil, Jorge Pontes, confirmed that this, "potential lead is in the course of being checked out," and he cannot, therefore, provide any details. A witness is sure about having seen the little British girl on a flight to Sao Paulo. Interpol's delegate in Brasilia, Marilia Moreira Marques, states that: "Since last year we have checked out five leads in Brazil. Unfortunately nothing has been found which would lead to Maddie's discovery."

Des photos de l'appartement publiée par News of the World et reproduisent ici devaient servir les intérêts du couple en démontrant les caches possibles. Seulement, loin d'aider les parents, ces photos ont mis en avant une évidence flagrante. Selon la presse portugaise, il y a une grosse difficulté, pour ne pas dire une impossibilité, pour le ravisseur de transporter Madeleine par la fenêtre de la chambre, en sautant par celle-ci avec une enfant de trois ans dans, ou sous, les bras.

The abduction theory can't be explained.

The British press lists several potential hiding places for a predator inside apartment 5a of the Ocean Club on the evening of May 3rd, towards 21.05, the time that Gerry stated he had gone into the apartment to check on the children. Photos published by the News of the World and reproduced her may serve the interests of the couple in showing the possible hiding places. Only, far from helping the parents, these photos put forward show the blatantly obvious. According to the Portuguese press, there is great difficulty, not to say an impossibility, for the abductor to take Madeleine through the bedroom window, jumping through there with a three year-old child in, or under, his arms.

Autre élément, et pas des moindres, que révèle la presse portugaise sur base de ces photos, c'est que le berceau des jumeaux était à côté du lit, près de la fenêtre. Ainsi, si un ravisseur aurait du s'enfuir par la fenêtre de la chambre, il aurait du enjamber le lit, tout en portant une enfant ou, déplacer le lit afin d'atteindre la fenêtre or le lit fut retrouvé à sa place ainsi que les deux berceaux des jumeaux rendant la théorie d'un ravisseur s'enfuyant par la fenêtre de la chambre des enfants, rocambolesque pour n pas dire impossible. Kate avait déclaré que la fenêtre de la chambre des enfants était ouverte et que ce serait probablement par là qu'un ravisseur potentiel se serait enfuit. Notons qu'aucunes autres fenêtres n'ont été trouvées ouvertes. Sur les photos, ont peut constater, poursuit la presse portugaise, que si une tierce personne était présente dns l'appartement au moment où Gerry est entré par la porte du patio, le suspect aurait eu un créneau de moins de 10 secondes pour se cacher.

Another detail, and not the least of them, revealed by the Portuguese press on the basis of these photos, is that the twins' cots were beside the bed, near the window. Thus if an abductor had had to flee through the bedroom window, he would have had to climb over the bed, carrying a child or move the bed to reach the window but the bed being found there as well as the twins' cots renders the theory of an abductor fleeing through the window of the children's bedroom, incredible, not to say impossible. Kate had stated that the window of the children's bedroom was open and that it was probably through there that a potential abductor would have fled. Note that no other window had been found open. From the photos, the Portuguese press goes on to say, it can be observed that if a third party had been present in the apartment at the moment when Gerry entered by the patio door, the suspect would have had a space of less than ten seconds in which to hide.
