Mrs Brooks has previously appeared to confirm that she was aware of police officers being paid for information.
She told a Commons committee in 2003: “We have paid the police for information in the past.”
It is believed that officers are attempting to speak to Greg Miskiw, a former assistant editor at the News of the World, whose signature appears on a contract for Glenn Mulcaire, a private investigator jailed alongside Goodman in 2007.
The former Sun editor, Rebekah Brooks, told a powerful group of MPs on Monday she has no knowledge of any actual payments the paper might have made to police officers in exchange for information.
In a letter to the chairman of the Commons home affairs select committee, Brooks, who is now chief executive of the paper's parent company News International, said she had no "knowledge of any specific cases" in which payments to police might have been made.
Brooks was responding to a request from the committee made last month to detail how many police officers received money from the Sun, which she edited from 2003 to 2009, and when the practice ceased.
In her letter to the home affairs select committee chairman, Labour MP Keith Vaz, Brooks said she was grateful for the opportunity to clarify the evidence she gave in March 2003.

So, Madeleine is not one of the 'emotional reasons,' for her return? You'd think the strongest emotional pull to the village of Praia da Luz would be that her daughter Madeleine disappeared there and never returned to her home in Rothley from what was supposed to be a family holiday. But, no, Kate McCann went back 'for emotional reasons AND to pray for Madeleine."
Kate McCann, as the 'devout Catholic,' some would claim you to be, surely you know that you can pray for your daughter anywhere? You could sit quietly and privately in the bedroom that Madeleine never returned to, amongst those things of hers you claim have never been changed, and pray for her.
After dropping the twins off Kate and I popped into church for 10 minutes to pray for Madeleine. Spent most of the day going through mail, e-mails and I had a number of calls to make. It was good to spend some time with my family and Sean and Amelie certainly enjoyed their auntie’s dinner- sometimes it is hard to beat mince and ‘tatties’!
Yes, you can pray anywhere, at any time, Kate McCann, but you and Gerry viewed praying for your daughter soon after she disappeared as something you took 10 minutes out of your busy day to do. I bet the mince and tatties took longer to enjoy than your 10 minutes of praying.

It seems to me that Kate McCann's anguish has increased over time and I wonder why that should be. In an interview with the BBC's Jane Hill, Kate McCann said that the first 48 hours were very hard and that they were, "almost non-functioning."
Well, the McCanns did appear to recover rather quickly from that 'non-functioning,' state. The pain of losing their daughter would seem to have been overcome with amazing, uncommon, and I would add, almost indecent speed.
As Kate revisited the scene of Madeleine's abduction aged just three it emerged that there are new efforts to find her.
Three British ex-cops have joined Dave Edgar's team in Portugal.
"Gerry and Kate have some very experienced people working for them now and they will also pray for a miracle", said a pal.
These cops have joined Dave Edgar's team in Portugal? What team? Does this mean there were already more than Edgar and Cowley? And have they finally decided to search in those 'hellish lairs,' in those, 'lawless villages,' within a 10 mile radius of Praia da Luz? Or is this an attempt to persuade the Portuguese courts that the McCanns truly believe that their daughter is still alive if they are pursuing their efforts to sue Dr Gonçalo Amaral, the only person who was ever truly committed to finding out what had happened to Madeleine, on a night when she disappeared into thin air, when the shutters had not been jemmied and Jane Tanner 'saw,' a man of varying descriptions carrying a child?
I think those of us who pray should pray for Kate McCann, that she finally tells the truth about what happened to her daughter and frees herself from this prison of lies and deceit that she has made for herself. The truth will set you free Kate.

Hier, les parents de Madeleine, Sean, Amélie et toute sa famille ont passé une deuxième fois l'anniversaire de Madeleine sans elle. L'anniversaire des 5 ans de la petite fut passé en privé en leur demeure. Le porte-parole de Kate et Gerry, Clarence Mitchell, a déclaré que le couple avait organisé une petite fête symbolique principalement pour le bien-être des jumeaux Sean et Amélie. "Sans la présence de Madeleine à leurs côtés, ce n'est malheureusement qu'un autre jour sans elle à bien des égards. Gerry et Kate ont, bien sûr, organisé quelque chose pour marquer le cinquième anniversaire de Maddie, autant pour Sean et Amélie que pour tout autre, mais ils le feront en privé" précisa le porte-parole. "Nous passerons le cinquième anniversaire de Madeleine en privé en tranquillement à la maison. Ce sera un des jours les plus durs de ces 375 derniers jours" a écrit Gerry sur son blog.

Yesterday, Madeleine's parents, Sean, Amélie and the whole family spent a second birthday without her. The little girl's fifth birthday was spent in private at their home. Kate and Gerry's spokesperson, Clarence Mitchell, stated that the couple had organised a small, symbolic celebration, primarily for the benefit of the twins Sean and Amélie. "Without Madeleine's being there with them, this is unfortunately just another day without her in many ways. Gerry and Kate have, of course, organised something to mark Maddie's fifth birthday, more for Sean and Amélie than for anyone else, but they did it in private," said their spokesperson. "We spent Madeleine's fifth birthday quietly, in private at home. It was one of the hardest of the last 375 days," Gerry wrote in his blog.

Clarence Mitchell revealed that following this recent appeal, the couple have received thousands of emails and hundreds of telephone calls. Madeleine in Brazil?
Since her disappearance, Madeleine has, "appeared," in several countries. Interpol has confirmed that some of these, "appearances," have taken place in Brazil but none of the witness statements have been shown to be convincing. This information is revealed by an official Interpol source. The last witness statement showed up about a month ago and the enquiry there is ongoing. The head of Interpol in Brazil, Jorge Pontes, confirmed that this, "potential lead is in the course of being checked out," and he cannot, therefore, provide any details. A witness is sure about having seen the little British girl on a flight to Sao Paulo. Interpol's delegate in Brasilia, Marilia Moreira Marques, states that: "Since last year we have checked out five leads in Brazil. Unfortunately nothing has been found which would lead to Maddie's discovery." La thèse de l'enlèvement ne s'explique pas.

Seulement, loin d'aider les parents, ces photos ont mis en avant une évidence flagrante. Selon la presse portugaise, il y a une grosse difficulté, pour ne pas dire une impossibilité, pour le ravisseur de transporter Madeleine par la fenêtre de la chambre, en sautant par celle-ci avec une enfant de trois ans dans, ou sous, les bras.
The abduction theory can't be explained.
The British press lists several potential hiding places for a predator inside apartment 5a of the Ocean Club on the evening of May 3rd, towards 21.05, the time that Gerry stated he had gone into the apartment to check on the children. Photos published by the News of the World and reproduced her may serve the interests of the couple in showing the possible hiding places. Only, far from helping the parents, these photos put forward show the blatantly obvious. According to the Portuguese press, there is great difficulty, not to say an impossibility, for the abductor to take Madeleine through the bedroom window, jumping through there with a three year-old child in, or under, his arms.
Autre élément, et pas des moindres, que révèle la presse portugaise sur base de ces photos, c'est que le berceau des jumeaux était à côté du lit, près de la fenêtre. Ainsi, si un ravisseur aurait du s'enfuir par la fenêtre de la chambre, il aurait du enjamber le lit, tout en portant une enfant ou, déplacer le lit afin d'atteindre la fenêtre or le lit fut retrouvé à sa place ainsi que les deux berceaux des jumeaux rendant la théorie d'un ravisseur s'enfuyant par la fenêtre de la chambre des enfants, rocambolesque pour n pas dire impossible. Kate avait déclaré que la fenêtre de la chambre des enfants était ouverte et que ce serait probablement par là qu'un ravisseur potentiel se serait enfuit. Notons qu'aucunes autres fenêtres n'ont été trouvées ouvertes. Sur les photos, ont peut constater, poursuit la presse portugaise, que si une tierce personne était présente dns l'appartement au moment où Gerry est entré par la porte du patio, le suspect aurait eu un créneau de moins de 10 secondes pour se cacher.
Another detail, and not the least of them, revealed by the Portuguese press on the basis of these photos, is that the twins' cots were beside the bed, near the window. Thus if an abductor had had to flee through the bedroom window, he would have had to climb over the bed, carrying a child or move the bed to reach the window but the bed being found there as well as the twins' cots renders the theory of an abductor fleeing through the window of the children's bedroom, incredible, not to say impossible. Kate had stated that the window of the children's bedroom was open and that it was probably through there that a potential abductor would have fled. Note that no other window had been found open. From the photos, the Portuguese press goes on to say, it can be observed that if a third party had been present in the apartment at the moment when Gerry entered by the patio door, the suspect would have had a space of less than ten seconds in which to hide.
