One year later Maddiemania is still with us.

A routine roadside check by the Guardia Civil, on the Avila road, near the town of Nombela (Toledo), caused rumours to break out this weekend that the police were looking for Maddie.

According to a source at the Spanish Guardia Civil, contacted by by SOS Madeleine, "the rumours without any foundation," started after the police began the systematic search of car boots within the framework of an operation to prevent youth crime.

Situated at some 750 km from Praia da Luz, no sign of Maddie has ever been found in the region but, given the enormous media coverage of the case, and according to the same source, "it is probably that certain more sensitive people are tempted to invent stories about her, a kind of Maddiemania."

Madeleine Beth McCann has been missing since May 3rd last year, the day when, according to her parents, someone took her from her bed in the holiday apartment where she was sleeping in the company of her brother Sean and her sister Amélie.

Since the start of the case, the parents, Gerald and Kate McCann, still cited as arguidos in the enquiry by the Portuguese police, have wanted to involve neighbouring Spain with Madeleine's disappearance, even hiring a Barcelona detective agency as a matter of, "language and culture," as their spokesperson said.
